Rotator Cuff Muscles


 

Description:

In this video I show the 4 rotator cuff muscles as well as the Teres major.

Subscapularis


    Sub (L) under, below
    Scapul, =a (L) The shoulder blade

    Origin - Anterior surface of scapula
    Insertion - Lesser tubercle humerus
    Action - Medial or internal rotation of humerus

Supraspinatus


    Supra (L). Above, over, beyond
    Spin, =a, -i (L). A spine, thorn

    Origin - Supraspinous fossa of scapula
    Insertion - Greater tubercle of humerus
    Action - Abduction of humerus

Infraspinatus

    Infra (L). Below, beneath
    Spin, =a, -i (L). A spine, thorn

    Origin - Infraspinous fossa of scapula
    Insertion - Posterior humerus
    Action - External rotation of humerus

Teres minor

    Tere, =s, -t (L). Round, smooth
    Minor (L). Less, smaller

    Origin - Axillary border of scapula
    Insertion - Posterior humerus
    Action - External rotation of humerus

Teres major
(also shown - not a rotator cuff muscle)

    Tere, =s, -t (L). Round, smooth
    Major (L). Larger

    Origin - Inferior part of axillary border of scapula
    Insertion - Anterior humerus
    Actions - Adduction, internal rotation and extension of humerus
